Total phosphorus refers to the total of particles and dissolved organic phosphorus and inorganic phosphorus in the water body, and the total phosphorus reflects the degree of pollution of the water body by phosphorus. Increasing the phosphorus content in water will cause eutrophication, cause blooms or red tides, and seriously affect water quality. The measuring method of this instrument mainly uses ammonium molybdate spectrophotometry.

Phosphates and phosphorus-containing compounds in water are hydrolyzed into phosphates under acidic conditions at high temperature and pressure. Phosphorus compounds that are difficult to be oxidized are also oxidized to phosphates by persulfate. Antimony compounds, which are reduced to ascorbic acid to blue phosphomolybdate, the total phosphorus content can be obtained by measuring the absorbance of the phosphomolybdate.

● The method used by this instrument and the ammonium molybdate spectrophotometric method specified in the national standard GB11893-89 have a good correlation with laboratory analysis and meet various parameters specified in HJ / T 103-2003
